Robert McClure Obituary

Robert Bruce McClure, known as Bruce to friends and family, but Bapa to his grandchildren, left a remarkable legacy when he passed away on June 22, 2025, at his New Carlisle, Indiana home. Bruce was born on September 27, 1956, in Morning Sun, Iowa, to proud parents Robert M. McClure and Marjorie (Bryant) McClure.

Bruce grew up on a small farm in Morning Sun, IA, with his parents and sisters. He graduated from The University of Northern Iowa with a degree in chemistry. He was on UNI’s wrestling team and was an All-American in 1976. Bruce went on to Des Moines University College of Osteopathic Medicine, where he met his future wife, Marybeth Francis. Following graduation, Bruce obtained his Family Medicine specialization through Ohio State University’s residency program. Following completion of his residency and service in the National Health Corp, Bruce and Marybeth moved to Mishawaka, where they raised their 3 children. Bruce was a respected physician in the Michiana area for many years, known for his skill and bedside manner. He retired in 2022 after decades of care and service to his patients and colleagues. His medical career was built on hard work, a strong sense of responsibility, and a commitment to helping others.

Bruce’s insatiable inquisitive nature lent itself to multiple hobbies, and he would quickly become an expert at anything he put his mind to. He was an active member of the Michiana Extract & Grain Association homebrew club (MEGA) and set up a certified mad scientist laboratory in his basement for all his home brewing. He loved to share his talents with others, and would often bring homemade beer to any special occasion, taking great pride in not only the taste of the beer, but also in the personalized labels he would design. He especially took great care to mark the birth of each grandchild with their own themed beer.

Bruce had a love of music and was a member of the First Presbyterian Church choir for many years. He recently developed an interest in bees and constructed several hives for beekeeping. He loved to share the resultant honey with his family and friends, which was especially enjoyed by his grandchildren.

Bruce extensively researched his genealogy and enjoyed discussing family records and photos with his sisters.

Bruce enjoyed sharing his talents with others, and that extended into volunteering with the Penn Wrestling Club. Many young athletes benefited from his leadership and example.

Family was the cornerstone of Bruce's life. He is survived by his wife, Marybeth (Francis) McClure, with whom he shared 43 years of marriage. He leaves behind his children, Megan (Baron) Kennedy, Lauren (Matthew) Yauch, and Brian McClure. He was known as Bapa to his four grandchildren, Kiera Kennedy and Leo, Ian, and Ada Yauch; and his sisters, Margaret (Jerry) Mills and Patty Devore. He valued time spent with his family and was a steady, supportive presence in their lives.
