On Monday 14 August 2023, Roderick Carl Church passed away peacefully in his home in Mishawaka Indiana. He was surrounded by family. Although he was born in Little Rock Arkansas, “Rod” as he was known to his friends and family was a native of Mishawaka his entire life. When his father Carl worked at the Uniroyal plant, Rod used to mow the baseball fields behind the plant for summer work. He graduated from Mishawka High School in 1967 and subsequently from Ball State University in 1971 with a bachelor’s degree in science specializing in geology (Magnu Cum Laude). Throughout college and immediately after graduation, he prepared to join the U.S. Navy and fulfill his lifelong dream of being a Naval Aviator, however his commitment was cut short due to the end of the Vietnam war and a reduction in force of military requirements. Subsequently, Rod became involved in the local transportation industry and for 38 years he drove intra-state for USF Holland, eventually retiring in 2009. In this capacity, he provided countless deliveries supporting numerous businesses in the Michiana area. While working there, he met the love of his life Tina Wilemon whom he married in 1985. Rod had a love of science, all things military and politics and wouldn’t hesitate to tell you his opinions about any of these topics at length! He is survived by his wife, Tina and his sons, Chris Church, (Laura -spouse, children Roderick and Nella) and Shaun Wagley (Jodi – spouse, and children Courtney and Brittany). Also surviving are his sister, Andrea Schott of Dayton Ohio and brother, Daniel Church of Wyoming.
Hahn Funeral Home has been entrusted with handling the final arrangements. Private family services will take place.
