Theodore Sauerbeck Obituary

Theodore “Ted” Joseph Sauerbeck Sr., 86, died peacefully in his sleep on Sunday, January 15, at his home in Tallahassee, Florida.

Ted was born June 14, 1936, in Detroit, Michigan, to Adam and Irene Sauerbeck.  He graduated as senior class president of Annunciation High in 1954.

Ted was a veteran of the U. S. Army from 1955 to 1958.  While in the Army, he received training at the Antiaircraft Artillery and Guided Missile School in Texas and continued his training in Virginia.  His missile training ultimately led to employment at the Kennedy Space Center during the early years of NASA, including the Mercury, Gemini, and Apollo space missions.

Ted went on to work for Bendix Corporation, Bechtel Power Company, and Chrysler Corporation.  Prior to his retirement from Chrysler Corporation in 1992, he obtained a Bachelor of Science degree from Eastern Michigan University.

Ted’s strong Christian values and work ethic made him an excellent role model for his children.  He was a handy man and an experienced automobile mechanic and was always quick to help family and friends in need.  He spent much of his retirement restoring automobiles, traveling, camping, spending time at the beaches, and gardening.  He was also a sports enthusiast and loved to play and watch golf.  He was lifetime member of the Michiana Mustang Club.

Ted was predeceased by his parents; his six older sisters, Alberta, Betty, Dolores, Evelyn, Lorraine, and Sylvia; and his loving wife of 49 years, Patricia Sauerbeck.  He is survived by his daughter, Denise Morgan (Scott Morgan); son, Ted Sauerbeck Jr. (Linda Sauerbeck); four grandchildren, Scotty Morgan, Tiffany Green, Amanda Sauerbeck, and Tyler Sauerbeck; and four great-grandchildren, Savannah and Presley Morgan, and Hunter and Lucy Green; and several nieces and nephews.

Family and friends can send flowers and/or light a candle as a loving gesture for Ted.  Additionally, in lieu of flowers, a donation can be made in memory of Ted to the Alzheimer’s Project, 301 East Tharpe Street, Tallahassee, FL 32303.  Leave a sympathy message to the family in the guestbook on this memorial page of Ted to show support.
