Waldron "Wally" Pratt Obituary

Waldron “Wally” Richard Pratt, 97, formerly of Mishawaka passed away on February 1, 2024, in Cedarhurst Assisted Living of Fort Wayne. Wally was born to the late Frank and Ella (Smith) Pratt on May 10, 1926, in Long Island, NY. He grew up in Long Island before joining the U.S. Navy and proudly serving in World War II on the U.S.S. South Dakota in the Pacific Theater. Wally went on to graduate from Purdue University and become an engineer for Honeywell where he retired as a program manager in 1991.

            Wally married the late Betty Jane Meer on August 30, 1946, in Michigan City, IN and they went on to have a beautiful family together prior to separating. She preceded him in death in 1976. Through his work Wally met and fell in love with the late Fatima Baiz and they married in Niles, MI on October 10, 1971. She preceded him in death in 2015. Wally was also preceded in death by his brother, Ralph Pratt; sisters, Dorothy Quinn and Shirley Dierman; brother-in-law, Thomas Baiz and sister-in-law, Betty Baiz.

            Wally is survived by his daughters, Cheryl Cooper and Sandra Sisson; granddaughter, Michelle Jordan; nephews, Thomas (Claire) Baiz Jr. and Ken Baiz; niece, Barbara (Mike) Kissane as well as many extended family members and friends.

            Wally was a member of the local American Legion, Honeywell Retirees group, Experiential Aircraft Association EAA. He was a very proud of his accomplishment in becoming a private pilot and enjoyed his time in the air.

            Friends may visit with the family from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Thursday, February 8 in Hahn Funeral home, 505 W. 8th Street, Mishawaka.  A funeral service will be held immediately following in the funeral home at 11 a.m., with VFW Military Rites. Wally will be laid to rest in Greenwood Cemetery, Michigan City, IN next to Fatima.
