Zuella Beutter Obituary

Zuella Rae Beutter passed away peacefully on January 3rd after a short illness. She was born in Dows, Iowa, on September 16th, 1930, to Fayette and Arnette (Sime) Osmundson. Zuella married George Beutter on January 28th, 1950, and together they had three sons, George Andy Beutter (Janice), John Christian Beutter (Deborah), Thomas Alan Beutter (Mary Beth), and a daughter, Elizabeth Anne Borowski (Andrew). She was blessed with nine grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, three nephews, two nieces, and many great-nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband George, and oldest son Andy.

Zuella graduated from Mishawaka High School in 1949 where she was a cheerleader and voted "Most Unforgettable Senior." She graduated from X-ray technology school at St. Joseph Hospital in Mishawaka and, after marrying her high school sweetheart, George, in 1950, they settled on the family dairy farm. She was a hardworking and loving wife and mother who would drive the tractor, wash the milkers, feed the calves, and have a delicious full meal ready for everyone. She never missed a band concert, sporting event, or 4-H activity of her kids. A dependable room mother and 4-H junior leader sponsor, she was also active in the Associated Milk Producers Inc. Auxiliary. Always ready to help, she worked Ag Days at Scottsdale Mall, led Campfire Girls, originated grilled cheese sandwich sales at the 4-H Dairy Bar, and created a style show called "You Don’t Look Like a Farmer," which was enjoyed by many women’s associations. Once she became an empty nester, she was encouraged to run for the PHM School Board, was elected, and served two consecutive terms from 1988-1996.

Zuella was proud of all her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved to hear about their activities, accomplishments, and travels. Over the years, she enjoyed babysitting them and making anything they wanted to eat, mainly macaroni and cheese and cookie-cutter PB&J sandwiches.

Her last few years were spent enjoying puzzles, dominoes, solitaire, spending girls' time on the porch, and eating out with family. She was always ready to indulge in a chocolate shake.  Zuella enjoyed Thanksgiving 2024, as she had years, at the home of her dear sister-in-law, Lois Meissner, surrounded by 45 family members.

She will be greatly missed, but she leaves a wonderful legacy and many happy memories. Her family would like to thank her caregivers: Brenda and Rosey from Home Instead, and LeRonda and Tamara from Senior 1 Care, for their compassionate care. A special thank you to Cheryl Kline for her friendship, care, and providing our mom with many days and years of happiness and laughs.
